Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Information Technology (IT) Engineer or Network Engineer is responsible for defining, developing, setting up, and maintaining computer networks for KinetX and its associated government programs, which require strict cyber security adherence (DFARS 252.204-7012, NIST 800-171, NIST 800-53, etc.). Computer networks include Firewalls, Routers, Switches, Servers, Workstations, etc. that are typically configured in a high availability infrastructure to support users in critical government missions. The IT/Network Engineer supports architecture, development, design, test, and documentation of large and complex computer systems following established system processes/methods/tools.
Hands-on experience setting up IT components (Firewalls, Servers, Routers, Workstations, etc.) and be able to configure, integrate, test, debug, and maintain them.
Strong computer networking skills, especially for government systems with heightened security.
Must be able to evaluate and document new technologies/products and make recommendations for best solutions to meet IT requirements for different types of government systems.
Work with users to solve network access issues (new user, forgot password, set up VPN, etc.).
Possess good communication, organizational and time management skills.
Be able to perform hands-on computer system integration and execution of tests to verify/validate the IT system meets functional and security requirements for various government networks.
Familiar with Windows, Mac and Linux Operating Systems (OS’s) for Servers and Workstations.
Ability to work extra hours or outside normal work hours during critical mission operations.
Application support for various tools such as Confluence, JIRA, Crowd, Git, SVN, etc.
Domain knowledge/experience in one of more of the applicable areas is desired:
o Ability to set up, configure, modify, and maintain Firewalls.
o Knowledge of Redhat Linux OS and can set it up and maintain it on various Servers.
o Ability to set up, configure, modify, and maintain Virtual Machines on Servers.
o Installation and configuration of software such as MATLAB, Python, STK, etc.
o Monitor network performance and security using various tools.
o IP routing, Firewall filtering, packet capture/tracing, and/or network management.
IT/Network Engineers are experienced engineers with a college degree in the IT or Electrical/Computer Engineering field, and about 2-8 years of experience in the discipline of IT, computer networking, cyber security, and general engineering. Specific skill sets required by this job are: define/document computer networks, implement/configure Windows/Linux Servers/Virtual Machines, ability to demonstrate compliance to government cyber security requirements, integrate/test/debug/maintain computer systems, team collaboration, good organizational/time management skills, and the availability to work occasionally outside normal work hours.
